Foreign audiences are buying what Hollywood is selling, pushing the industry to a record-breaking year at the worldwide box office. Last year, blockbusters like "The Avengers," "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Skyfall" deftly navigated cultural barriers everywhere from Toluca, Mexico, to Hyderabad, India, demonstrating how the film business' future hinges on a global cultural and commercial exchange. Internationally, ticket sales grew by 3 percent to $23.1 billion compared to $22.4 billion the previous year, with foreign territories accounting for 68 percent of the top 10 grossing films (see accompanying charts).
