The original Batmobile used in the 1966-68 Batman TV series sold tonight at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction for $4.6 million including fees. Bidding lasted about 4 minutes and the winning bid was $4.2 million before fees were assessed. The car’s customizer-owner George Barris had put the car up for bids last month. Barris bought the 1955 Lincoln Futura Concept car for $1 from the Ford Motor Co. and was given $15,000 and 15 days to gadgetize the handmade 19-foot two-seater. Some observers had predicted the car would sell for as much as $5 million. And even though $4.6 million is a lot, Barrett-Jackson’s Twitter feed said a Shelby Cobra that once sold for $5.5 million holds the record. (Photo by Barrett-Jackson) »
