Speculation that Sam Wilson/Falcon would take flight in Joss Whedon’s anticipated follow-up to The Avengers wasn’t initially fueled when Anthony Mackie joined Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It was actually when Marvel announced a new animated Avengers Assemble series “designed to reflect the movie,” revealing Falcon as the newest member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. However, since then, besides the casting of Mackie, there has been no further indication of our speculation coming to fruition; sort of until today. During a recent interview with The Root, Anthony Mackie was inquired about his preparation for The Winter Soldier. Before getting to the question, the site reminded the actor, “In the upcoming The Avengers 2 and Captain America sequel, you’ll play the Falcon.” And in response to the question, “How are you preparing?” Mackie failed to correct the interviewer that it’s just the Captain America sequel he’ll take part in. »
