David Letterman doesn't tape his show on Fridays, but that doesn't mean there isn't work to be done. Deadline is reporting some serious behind-the-scenes moves today. Matt Roberts, longtime writer and producer on the show, has been named the new head writer after the departures of Justin and Eric Stangel.
The Stangel brothers aren't going far, though. They've signed a multi-year development deal with Letterman's Worldwide Pants production company. The move is smart, given what happened last time Worldwide Pants let writers for the show walk away to develop shows elsewhere. Former writers Carter Bays and Craig Thomas went on to create hit TV show "How I Met Your Mother."
Matt Roberts becomes Letterman's first new head writer in 14 years. He originally started out as an intern in charge of wrangling guests, before eventually bring promoted to segment producer and writer on the show. He enters a more competitive arena than he's used to, »
