Since opening on Christmas Day last month, director Quentin Tarantino's critically acclaimed action Western Django Unchained has proven to be a big success. The film, which stars Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kerry Washington and Samuel L. Jackson, has now set a new record for the Pulp Fiction director. The Weinstein Company has confirmed that Django (which has yet to open in international territories) is nearing $130 million domestically, becoming Tarantino's highest grossing project to date. This surpasses the $120.5M gross of his last film, 2009's Inglourious Basterds. The film recently won two Golden Globes, Best Screenplay for Tarantino and Best Supporting Actor for Waltz. Django Unchained is also up for five Academy Awards (which will be held next month), being nominated for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (again for Waltz), Best Cinematography, and Best Sound Editing.
