Kate Middleton unveiled her official portrait at the National Portrait Gallery in London earlier today. Kate, wearing a red dress from Whistles, was joined by husband Prince William and artist Paul Emsley, who painted the piece. The artwork itself features a close-up shot of Kate, softly smiling with her mouth closed, against a black background. Kate called the portrait "brilliant" while William called it "absolutely beautiful." Although William and Kate both love the piece, it is getting mixed reviews in the press, with some calling Kate's portrait "awkward." The artwork will hang in the National Portrait Gallery alongside other famous faces such as King Henry VIII. Kate's portrait comes just a few days after she celebrated her 31st birthday.
