Fifty Shades of Grey will be adapted for the big screen with an Nc-17 rating in mind, screenwriter Kelly Marcel has confirmed. The actress and Terra Nova writer recently spoke with The Sunday Times about the film adaptation of El James's erotic fiction trilogy, suggesting that it would receive an 18 rating in the UK.

['Fifty Shades of Grey' screenwriter Kelly Marcel'] "It will be rated Nc-17. It's going to be raunchy," Marcel told the paper. She also stated of the trilogy's sex scenes: "We are 100% going there." Although the movie will not officially be given a rating until it is complete, Marcel said that movie bosses have already selected racy scenes from the book that are slated to make it into the motion picture.
