The director of The Road, John Hilcoat’s latest film is an adaptation of Matt Bondurant’s novel based on the true tale of his grandfather and great uncles, three brothers: Forest, jack and Howard Bondurant, as moonshining bootleggers in Franklin County, Virginia. Lawless follows the repercussions of Forest (Tom Hardy) stands up to Special Agent Charlie Rakes (Guy Pearce), who arrives from Chicago demanding a cut in the brothers’ profits.
