The first two trailers for Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby," both featuring the pulsing hip-hop beats of Kanye West-Jay-Z collaboration "Watch the Throne," let us know that this will be no ordinary F. Scott Fitzgerald adaptation. Sure enough, it was revealed on Twitter today that Jay-Z is producing the score for the film. Musician Jeymes Samuel, who is singer and producer for the band The Bullitts, tweeted that he and the legendary rapper are "working tirelessly on the score for the upcoming #Classic The Great Gatsby." The film's official composer is Craig Armstrong ("Moulin Rouge," "Love Actually," "Ray"), so the extent of Jay-z and Samuel's musical contribution remains to be seen. "The Great Gatsby" may have box office woes upon its May 10 release. The film was originally slated to hit theaters this past December, but Warner Bros. opted to pull it out of the line of Oscar fire. »
