The numbers are in, and it's official: The (fictional) found-footage epic party movie, "Project X," is the most pirated film of 2012, according to TorrentFreak.

The sleeper spring break release was downloaded 8.7 million times on populat filesharing site BitTorrent, taking this year's crown for movie people most want to stare at, huddled glassy-eyed at the laptops in the middle of the night, mumbling, "Dude. Duuuuuude."

Not that the high download rate has totally emptied the pockets of the film's makers: "Project X" grossed nearly $101 million in theaters worldwide, and cost only an estimated $12 million to produce. Color us impressed with that profit margin.

Closely trailing the party movie underdog were two box office smashes: "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol" and "The Dark Knight Rises," with 8.5 million and 8.2 million downloads, respectively.
