Mark Zuckerberg has donated almost $$500 million (£308 million) in company stock to a Silicon Valley charity. The Facebook CEO, worth an estimated $$12.5 billion (£7.7 billion), announced the news on the social network, revealing that he and wife Priscilla Chan have given 18 million shares to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation. The organisation helps donors distribute their money via grants which support health and education causes. Zuckerberg's donation, the second largest of the year following Warren Buffet's $$2.85 billion (£1.75 billion), comes after he gave $$100 million (£62 million) to public schools in Newark, New Jersey in 2010. He is a member of The Giving Pledge, a campaign conceived by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett that encourages the world's wealthiest individuals to give at least half their fortunes to good causes.
