Publishers facing a defamation lawsuit launched by Tom Cruise have asserted that their claims are "substantially true". Cruise launched the $$50 million lawsuit against Bauer Publishing Co. over an article written in a recent issue of one of the company's properties, Life & Style. The article, printed in October, alleged that Cruise abandoned daughter Suri after his divorce from Katie Holmes in June. His lawyer Bert Fields refuted the claims, saying: "Tom is a caring father who dearly loves Suri. She's a vital part of his life and always will be. To say he has 'abandoned' her is a vicious lie. To say it in lurid headlines with a tearful picture of Suri is reprehensible."
