The NAACP Image Award nominations were announced December 11, with Benh Zeitlin's "Beasts of the Southern Wild," Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained," Robert Zemeckis' "Flight" and Ava DuVernay's "Middle of Nowhere" nabbing recognition across multiple categories. InContention's Guy Lodge points out that DuVernay's feature oddly didn't receive a Best Picture nomination, being passed over for "Tyler Perry's Good Deeds" and Tuskegee-pilots actioner "Red Tails." Stranger still, it didn't even register in the Best Independent Motion Picture category. "Middle of Nowhere" is, however, nominated for the Indie Spirits' John Cassavetes Award. Full list below.
