Drive director in early talks to steer Denzel Washington-starring Hollywood reboot of hit 80s TV series
Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn is set to take on the forthcoming big-screen adaptation of 80s crime serial The Equalizer, which has Denzel Washington attached to star.
The Danish film-maker, whose unorthodox gangland thriller was one of the best-reviewed genre films of last year, is in early talks for the project after beating a number of rival contenders, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Washington has long been charged with the task of stepping into the shoes of original star Edward Woodward, who played former spy Robert McCall on TV between 1985 and 1989. The show's setup had McCall as a maverick law enforcer who offered his services for free via an advert in the newspaper. He took down hoodlums, murderers, kidnappers, rapists and drug dealers. The ad read: "Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer. »
