Ty Burrell, star of ABC’s Modern Family, has joined the cast of The Muppets sequel.
The sequel is set in Europe, and Burrell’s character is one of an Interpol Inspector. Christoph Waltz was expected to play the role but scheduling conflicts killed that notion. To go from Oscar-winner Waltz to TV’s Burrell is kind of a letdown, but Burrell is fine enough an actor.
Despite 2011′s The Muppets being very Jason Segel centric, he’s neither starring in nor co-writing the sequel. Perhaps working on that first film for so long killed his passion for the world, or Disney just wanted to go in a new direction.
The Muppets sequel shoots in London this winter.
