Returning Sundance directors dominate the Sundance and documentary premieres roster, which shows the impact of actors being willing to lend their names to indie fare, not only as actors but as directors. Sundance stalwart Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes his directing debut with "Don Jon's Addiction," co-starring Scarlett Johansson. Many of the films that have never been seen before will be eagerly attended by acquisitions executives. Among the most anticipated debuts are Richard Linklater's eagerly awaited sequel to "Before Sunrise" and "Before Sunset," "Before Midnight," starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, who meet in Greece almost 20 years after their first meeting. Zal Batmanglij ("The Sound of My Voice") returns with Brit Marling in "The East," a Fox Searchlight release.
