Writer Ryan Engle has yet to have one of his screenplays produced in Hollywood, but already he’s racking up some pretty big name credits.  Back in March he was hired by New Line Cinema to adapt the 80′s video game Rampage.  Most recently he did on-set rewrite work for the upcoming Liam Neeson action flick Non-Stop.

Now he’s been hired to write the script for The New West for producer Len Wiseman, an adaptation of a 2005 sci-fi thriller comic book.  The film’s official logline is being kept secret.

Variety describes the comic book’s plot:

“… centers on a bomb creating an electromagnetic pulse that causes all technology to stop working in Los Angeles and a disgraced former Lapd detective who must rescue the kidnapped mayor.”

Sounds fun, although I wonder if by technology they also mean electricity?  So then it might be very similar to NBC’s Revolution. »
