Well, in a way, he already has...

Pre-Anchorman, pre-The 40-Year-Old Virgin, pre-Knocked Up, director and producer extraordinaire Judd Apatow was just a regular schmo looking for a break. And one of his first projects was a Simpsons script 22 years ago.

The story involved Homer being hypnotised to believe he is his son's age, where he then becomes Bart's best friend. An adult man struggling with maturity? Yep, that's Apatow alright.

The current Simpson scribes have uncovered this long lost script (presumably in a dusty warehouse full of tie-in chess sets, lunchboxes and bubble bath bottles) and will now adapt it into a real life (well, 2D cartoon) episode next year.
