"The 40th Anniversary American Music Awards" felt like a blast from the past with Gloria Estefan and Cyndi Lauper taking the stage, a tribute medley by Stevie Wonder and a command performance by none other than M.C. Hammer.
But it was the youth of today who walked away with the awards.
Justin Bieber won favorite pop/rock male artist and favorite pop/rock album for "Believe," while Taylor Swift took home favorite country female for the fifth year in a row.
Nicki Minaj walked away with two awards -- favorite rap/hip hop artist and favorite rap/hip hop album for "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded."
Linkin Park won favorite alternative rock artist, while Luke Bryan nabbed the honor for male country artist. Usher, who opened the show by dancing on a treadmill, took the male artist award in the soul/R&B category.
