AMC has "Hell On Wheels" has been renewed for a third season. A spokesperson for AMC confirmed to The Huffington Post that the series has been renewed for a 10 episode third season.

The Season 2 premiere of the series starring Anson Mount and Common had 2.5 million viewers, while the Season 2 finale was down a bit to 2.2 million. The ratings were down from Season 1, but "Hell On Wheels" Season 2 did not have "The Walking Dead" as a lead-in.

Mount talked about how to prolong the series ahead of the Season 2 premiere.

"It’s been a personal vendetta of mine to open up new facets of the character this season, that are perhaps softer and lighter," Mount told Collider about his character Cullen Bohannon. "That’s the only way you’re going to get to know who this guy really is, beyond being a bad-ass. I’m sorry, but you can’t play bad-ass for five seasons. »
