Punisher: War Zone #1

Writer: Greg Rucka | Artist: Marco Checchetto | Published by Marvel Comics

The Punisher is, like Ghost Rider, one of those Marvel characters whose popularity – at least in comic terms – is directly tied to the writer penning the book. Thankfully this new mini-series has the creative backing of Greg Rucka, a writer who has worked for DC Comics in the majority, penning comics such as Gotham Central, Wonder Woman and Detective Comics. He is also responsible for the fantastic espionage-based comic Queen & Country as well as it’s tie-in novels. Punisher: War Zone (which no doubt drops “The” from the title to distinguish itself from the original mini series of the 80s) takes everything Rucka has done in his previous books, especially Queen & Country and Gotham Central and applies it to Marvel’s well-known and well-loved vigilante, Frank Castle.

The premise is simple: think The Punisher versus The Avengers, »
