HBO will be bringing "Boardwalk Empire" back next year for more bootlegging, bloodshed and betrayal -- crediting a successful Season 3 debut and positive critical response for the renewal.

The network announced that the Season 3 premiere brought in 7.2 million viewers, and HBO expects ratings to grow via reruns, DVR viewing and more.

"Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese and the rest of their outstanding team continue to produce a stunning show that never fails to surprise and entertain," says President of Programming Michael Lombardo. "We are excited to bring this unique series back for a fourth season."

The Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning series is currently following Enoch "Nucky" Thompson (Steve Buscemi), his wife Margaret (Kelly Macdonald), Al Capone (Stephen Graham) and a cast of other characters through the year 1923.
