Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been confirmed as the new International Goodwill Ambassador for Unaids. As part of a joint Un initiative, the actress will raise awareness of the issues relating to the prevention of the HIV virus in children. Speaking to Pti, the 39-year-old actress said: "I am honoured to accept this appointment. "Spreading awareness on health issues specially related to women and children has always been a priority for me and now as a new mother I can personally relate to this - the joys and concerns of every mother and the hopes that we have for our children." Rai Bachchan, who gave birth to her first child in November 2011, said she was committed to ensuring that the aim of the programme is achieved.
