Il regista di Dark Knight Returns, Jay Oliva, è anche l'artista che ha realizzato lo storyboard per L'Uomo D'Acciaio di Zack Snyder. Oliva ha esordito ai microfoni di SciFi TV News dicendo quanto sia stupendo. Nella realizzazione si è cercato anche di trovare delle idee da altri comic-movie come Sin City e 300. Ovviamente la storia di Superman è già scritta ma qui si è messo l'accento su come sarà raccontata. L'artista conferma le prime impressioni, che volevano più un approccio alla Christopher Nolan in grado di valorizzare i protagonisti e le relazioni tra i personaggi. Il tutto ha reso la pellicola qualcosa di più realistico di qualunque altro film sul super eroe. »
