We just learned that the UK version of "The Avengers" will be released in stores with a major scene altered. There were many assumptions as to why Marvel would do that, and all of them turned out to be wrong. Spoilers Ahead: In the scene, Agent Coulson is stabbed in the back with a spear, the blade of which rips through his chest, killing him. But in the UK version, the blade never comes out of the chest. According to Disney, this wasn't a mistake or censorship, this is exactly what UK movie-goers saw in theaters. "There's been no censorship, no foul play. The version of Marvel's 'Avengers Assemble' on Blu-ray disc in the UK is the same as the version shown theatrically," explained the studio. "The simple fact is for a 12 certificate film in the UK, that scene was deemed inappropriate. So Marvel Studios chose to remove the spear tip digitally. »
