It was a good night for Game of Thrones on Sunday as HBO’s epic fantasy drama led the winners at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards, taking home six gongs for Art Direction, Special Effects, Costume Design, Non-Prosthetic Makeup, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. The series will contend a further two awards on Sunday when the 64th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards takes place in Los Angeles, where it is nominated alongside Boardwalk Empire, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey, Homeland and Mad Men for Outstanding Drama Series, while Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) looks for back-to-back success in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category.

The Creative Arts Emmys also offered multiple awards to the documentary series Frozen Planet, Dickens adaptation Great Expectations, comedy series Saturday Night Live and the 65th Tony Awards, all of which collected four gongs apiece, followed by Prohibition drama Boardwalk Empire and miniseries Hatfields & McCoys with three each. »
