È stato finalmente trovato il protagonista della serie televisiva Bates Motel, che farà da prequel al capolavoro di Alfred Hitchcock, Psyco. TV Guide riporta che la parte di Norman Bates, interpretata nei film da Anthony Perkins, è andata al giovane Freddie Highmore, che il pubblico ricorderà in pellicole come Finding Neverland e La fabbrica di cioccolato.
Il produttore esecutivo Carlton Cuse (Lost), aveva dichiarato a inizio anno che non stava cercando un attore che imitasse Perkins, ed inoltre aveva aggiunto che lo show avrebbe mostrato un approccio originale e stratificato. In Bates Motel verrà esplorato il rapporto di Norman con la madre Norma (Vera Farmiga) e racconterà il passato del giovane che ha contribuito a trasformarlo in un serial killer.
Ma a differenza dei film, Norman questa volta avrà un fratello maggiore, Dylan, un ragazzo petulante e ribelle simile a James Dean che sarà interpretato da Max Thieriot (House at the End of the Street »
