The court-appointed administrator of Gary Coleman's estate has asked a judge for permission to sell the late actor's Utah home because the star's assets are not enough to cover the monthly mortgage payments.

Robert Jeffs filed the motion in court on Wednesday, requesting to place the property and an adjacent lot on the market for $324,000 (£216,000).

He is also seeking to have the remainder of the former child star's possessions removed from the house in order to call in repairmen and decorators to fix up the place after a realtor described it as being in a "poor/distressed condition".

In court documents obtained by TMZ.com, Jeffs states, "The belongings in the house are disorganised and in disarray."

Coleman still owed $325,158 (£216,772) on the mortgage at the time of his death in May.

The Diff'rent Strokes star's ex-wife, Shannon Price, is currently locked in a court battle to be formally recognised as the dead actor's spouse so she can challenge Coleman's ex-girlfriend, Anna Gray, for control of his estate.

Both claim documents written by Coleman award them his belongings and Price insists she continued to live with the star after their 2008 divorce.
