Actor said to be interested in film about late American football coach who was fired in the wake of the Penn State scandal

Al Pacino is in talks to star as the controversial college American football coach Joe Paterno, who was forced to retire in disgrace after a sexual abuse scandal took place under his watch.

Based on the bestselling biography Paterno by Joe Posnanski, the film is currently being pitched to studios. No screenplay has yet been delivered and no director is attached to the project, but the prospect of a movie about the rise and downfall of one of the most venerable figures in recent Us sporting history is likely to have Tinseltown excited, particularly if Pacino signs on the dotted line.
