Los Angeles, California (X17online) - The Possession is set to have one of the top Labor Day openings of all time, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Sam Raimi-produced horror flick topped the three-day holiday box office with an estimated $17.7 million, and Lionsgate is estimating a $21.3 million four-day gross for the film. The current record holder for the top Labor Day opener is fellow horror flick Halloween, which earned $30.6 million in 2007. Transporter 2's 2005 box office opening gross of $20.1 million is currently the second highest opening for the holiday weekend, so The Possession looks like it's on track to knock Transporter 2 down a spot. Lawless, starring Tom Hardy, Shia Labeouf, Jessica Chastain, Guy Pearce and Mia Wasikowska, is holding on to the number two spot, grossing $9.8 million for the three-day weekend. Projections show the film finishing the four-day weekend in the $14.5 million to $15 million range, reports THR. »
