A&E has cast Vera Farmiga to play Norma Bates in their upcoming Bates Motel series.

The series comes from Lost’s Carlton Cuse and Friday Night LightsKerry Ehrin, and according to Hollywood Reporter, has been dubbed as a cross between Twin Peaks and Smallville.

“We are delighted to welcome Vera Farmiga to ‘Bates Motel’,” executive producer Carlton Cuse said. “She is a phenomenal talent who has demonstrated incredible range and intelligence in a number of landmark film roles, and we couldn’t be more excited to have her join our project.”

This prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960 classic Psycho, will follow Norman Bates’ relationship with his mother and offer a backstory for the infamous serial killer. “His mother, Norma, is in her early forties [Farmiga is 39] and very hot,” says Cuse. In the pilot the Bates family moves to a rural town in Northern California and purchases a run-down motel. »
