Possibly bowing to the inevitability that passionate fans will download new episodes after they hit the air in the UK rather than wait for a later U.S. broadcast, BBC America announced today that it would air the premiere of the new season of "Doctor Who" at 9 pm Saturday, September 1, the same day that it kicks off across the Atlantic. Matt Smith will return as the eleventh doctor, though his companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and her husband Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) are set to leave the show after the first five episodes. Per BBC America, "the explosive series concludes with Amy and Rory's heart-breaking farewell -- a race against time through the streets of Manhattan."
