Homeland si è rivelata una serie di successo, a metà tra il thriller e il dramma con elementi di introspezione psicologica. La protagonista Carrie Mathison, Claire Danes, agente operativo della CIA crede che il marines Nicholas Brody, Damien Lewis, liberato dalla prigione in cui era rinchiuso in Iraq, potrebbe avere un ruolo in un attacco terroristico sul suolo americano.La figura di Brody è di cruciale importanza per la serie: un marines ritenuto morto ma ritrovato dopo otto anni di prigionia.
