After the success of The Walking Dead, did you think AMC was done investing in genre television? As Breaking Bad and Mad Men are nearing their end, AMC is looking to create their next big TV property by teaming up with The Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd for Area 51.

The project is based on Annie Jacobsen’s Area 51: An Uncensored History of America’s Top Secret Military Base and, according to THR, “will take place in the 1950s-1960s and will focus on those who work at the base and protect the country’s secrets — including the remains of the alleged alien crash at Roswell.”

Todd Ellis Kessler (The Practice, The Unit) is also on board as an executive producer and will be handling writing duties. This project is in the very early development stages, so don’t expect too much new information until late this year or early next year. »
