Jon Chu è al momento impegnato con G.I. Joe: la Vendetta, che sta dimensionalizzando in 3D. Il regista di Step Up 3D e Never say never, è da sempre, stato un grande fan della franchise, una passione che ha contribuito a convincere la Paramount ad assumerlo per il sequel.
“Hanno amato l’idea che ci sono cresciuto con la serie, che ho capito quello che [il film] doveva essere a questo punto, e così ho fatto un po’ di video, immagini e altre cose, che hanno poi visto. Poi siamo partiti da lì. Sinceramente non ero sicuro che avessero l’intenzione di assumermi, ci ho solamente provato, e lo abbiamo fatto. Penso che ci voglia molto coraggio da parte loro nel credere in me, ma la Paramount ha del fegato, fa delle cose folli, ma sono super intelligenti in quello che fanno”.
