Here's an intriguing little science-fiction dramedy that made a splash at Sundance earlier this year and is now headed for a theatrical release later this summer. First-time director Jake Schreier takes us into the not-to-distant future where robot companions can be used to look after the elderly. In this case, an ex-jewel thief named Frank (Frank Langella) is reluctantly given one of these robots by his children (James Marsden and Liv Tyler), and although at first he resists, eventually he grows to appreciate his new mechanical friend. The movie feels a bit like a cross between A.I. and Grumpy Old Men (if such a thing is possible) but from the trailer we learn that there is also a heist element to it as well. The robot itself is voiced by Peter Sarsgaard, which seems like an inspired choice, and design-wise he feels reminiscent of Marvin from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy »
