Sono in molti a tralasciare il fatto che che la carriera di David Lynch si sia sviluppata anche grazie all’aiuto di Mel Brooks, sebbene gli stili dei due registi non abbiano molto in comune. Quando Lynch girò "Eraserhead, la mente che cancella", il suo primo lungometraggio, fu proprio uno dei produttori di Brooks, Stuart Cornfeld, a notare il potenziale dell’allora giovane regista, e proporlo a Brooks. Da lì nacque il connubio che portò al film che lanciò definitivamente Lynch, quando i due realizzarono "The Elephant Man", Lynch in regia, e Mel Brooks come produttore esecutivo. »
