Amber Entertainment has won a bidding war for feature rights to Rebecca Stead's science fiction novel "When You Reach Me." Book was recently awarded the Newbery Medal for children's literature. Ileen Maisel ("The Golden Compass") of Amber will produce alongside Stead. Book spent fourteen weeks on The New York Times bestseller list for children's books. Story takes place in 1979 New York on the Upper West Side and tells of a sixth-grade heroine, weaving together mystery, coming of age, friendship as well as time travel. It references Madeleine "A Wrinkle in Time" by L'Engle as the hero and reader solve a difficult puzzle.
