Dopo aver confermato la partecipazione al southern drama di Ridley Scott, l'attrice spagnola torna a collaborare con il maestro e amico Pedro Almodovar. Il Premio Oscar Penelope Cruz ha confermato ufficialmente l'ingaggio in The Counselor, drammatica pellicola firmata dallo scrittore Cormac McCarthy che Ridley Scott si accinge a dirigere. Nel film, incentrato su un avvocato del Sud che decide di entrare nel business dello spaccio di droga e si mette in affari con un pericoloso criminale, l'attrice affiancherà il marito Javier Bardem, Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz e Brad Pitt. In aggiunta a ciò la Cruz tornerà a collaborare con Pedro Almodovar nella sua nuova commedia, intitolata Los Amantes Pasajeros.
