Il protagonista della miniserie della BBC Sherlock, Benedict Cumberbatch, è entrato nel cast dell’ultimo progetto del regista Steve McQueen, Twelve Years a Slave, basato su una storia vera accaduta nel diciannovesimo secolo.
Protagonista del film è Chiwetel Ejiofor che interpreta Solomon Northup, un uomo di colore che viveva libero nella New York del 1840, che fu ingannato su un possibile lavoro a Washington, rapito e obbligato a lavorare come schiavo in una piantagione in Louisiana, per più di una decina d’anni. Variety riporta che Cumberbatch interpreterà il proprietario della piantagione, che comprò Northup, che fu conquistato dalla abilità dell’uomo come ingegnere.
Questo è uno degli ultimi progetti di alto profilo a cui Cumberbatch parteciperà. Ricordiamo che l’attore ha interpretato un ruolo chiave in War Horse di Steven Spielberg, sarà il drago Smaug e il Necromante in The Hobbit di Peter Jackson, e il cattivo in Star Trek 2 di J.J. Abrams. »
