Le riprese aggiuntive sono ormai diventate una prassi a Hollywood, almeno per i blockbuster. Inizialmente si ricorreva a queste riprese quando era necessario fare dei piccoli ritocchi alla pellicola, ma negli ultimi anni è capitato sempre più spesso che gli studio pianifichino, una o due settimane di riprese aggiuntive, per cambiare il finale, o aggiungere delle nuove scene nel film. In questa categoria ricadono pellicole di successo come Avatar, The Avengers, Harry Potter e i doni della morte – Parte 2, L’alba del pianeta delle scimmie, ma anche flop come John Carter, La cosa o Red Tails. Anche film di prossima uscita come Breaking Dawn e The Amazing Spider-Man hanno avuto delle riprese aggiuntive per ritoccare e/o cambiare alcune scene.
Bensì dunque si tratti ormai di una pratica quasi consolidata, normalmente l’annuncio delle riprese aggiuntive non è mai ben visto nel settore, specie quando un film ha subito dei ritardi, »
