Il presidente di Marvel Studios Kevin Feige ha annunciato che oltre a Iron Man 3, Thor 2, Captain America 2 e il misterioso film del 2014, lo Studio sta lavorando a un secondo film non ancora annunciato. Inoltre il grande successo al box office di The Avengers ha creato molto buzz intorno al secondo capitolo, ancora con una data di uscita da definire. Durante un'intervista Feige ha dichiarato in relazione ai loro prossimi progetti:
“Vogliamo fare due film l’anno. Avengers è l’unico film, per noi, quest’anno ma, in una decina di giorni cominceremo a filmare Iron Man 3. Per la fine dell’estate lavoreremo al prossimo film di Thor, agli inizi del prossimo anno al prossimo film di Captain America. Questi sono i tre che abbiamo annunciato fino a questo momento, ma ne abbiamo altri due a cui stiamo lavorando”.
