J.K. Rowling has won a won a battle to build kennels for her guard dogs at her Edinburgh, Scotland home after a neighbour complained about the planning proposal.

The Harry Potter writer is currently refurbishing the $3 million (£2 million) property and recently submitted plans to create a separate three-bedroom building on the land for security guards and kennels for her protective canines.

One nearby resident lodged an objection with the local council, citing the potential for excessive noise in a bid to have Rowling's developments scaled down.

A neighbour tells Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper, "The application has been kept pretty hush-hush (quiet). Very few people in the area seem to know anything about it. The whole property is shielded by large hedges so you can't really see where new property would be but, seemingly, it will partly accommodate security guards and guard dogs."

But the opposition has been dismissed by council officials, who have approved Rowling's bid, according to the publication.
