Dalla Cina giungono nuove informazioni riguardanti il ruolo di Andy Lau in Iron Man 3 e sul motivo che spingerà Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) ad andare in Cina. Il sito cinese Apple Daily ha rivelato che Lau interpreterà uno scienziato, nella sua prima pellicola hollywoodiana, che sarà responsabile del miglioramento e della fortificazione dell’armatura di Iron Man, nella sua battaglia contro il Mandarino che verrà interpretato da Ben Kingsley. Questa è la prima volta che viene espressamente annunciata la presenza del Mandarino e che sarà interpretato da Kingsley. Fino a questo momento sono circolate solamente molte voci a tal proposito.
Nelle varie saghe a fumetti di Iron Man, il Mandarino è cinese, mongolo… ma nella sua prima versione è stato descritto come il figlio di uno degli uomini più ricchi della Cina pre-revoluzionaria e di una nobildonna inglese. È stato riportato che:
