When it comes to creating films that do well around the world, comedy is one of Britain's strengths. Now Film4 have announced the creation of a new £1M fund specifically for comedy films made as part of their brand.

The announcement came at Film4's annual pre-Cannes party in London, celebrating Kerouac adaptation On The Road, the film they will be taking to the French festival. "This is a fantastic adrenaline shot for more British film comedy," said Channel 4 Head of Comedy Shane Allan, who will be coordinating the investments. Channel 4 has enjoyed a hugely successful year for its television comedies so feel the time is right to make more for the big screen.
