Safety Not Guaranteed

Written by Derek Connolly

Directed by Colin Trevorrow

USA, 2012

The theme of time travel was epitomised in the 80′s and 90′s. With the Back to the Future trilogy and sci-fi shows such as Sliders and Quantum Leap, it was only a matter of time before you can make time travel “new” again.

Safety Not Guaranteed is a romantic dramedy with a sci-fi element starring Aubrey Plaza, who is best known as obnoxious Julie Powers in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Her character, Darius, is assigned to help Jeff (New Girl‘s Jake Johnson) on an article following a curious newspaper ad, wherein the advertiser is looking for someone to go back in time with them. Going undercover as an interested party, she meets Kenneth (Mark Duplass, also executive producer), a supposedly unstable man who is determined to travel back to the year 2001.
