Defiance, la producción transmedia arranca la producción de su episodio piloto en Toronto, y prevé estrenar, tanto la serie, como el videojuego relacionado, en primavera de 2013. Gracias a esta asociación entre Syfy y Trion Worlds, Defiance será la primera oportunidad en la que converjan una serie de television y un videojuego masivo multijugador online, interconectando ambos mundos y sus argumentos, que coexistirán en ambas plataformas.
Las estrellas de Defiance y sus personajes son actores como: Grant Bowler (Nolan); Julie Benz (Amanda Rosewater); Stephanie Leonidas (Irisa); Tony Curran (Datak Tarr); Jaime Murray (Stahma Tarr); Graham Greene (Rafe McCawley); Mia Kirshner (Kenya); y Fionnula Flanagan (Nicky).
El casting también incluye a Jesse Rath como Alak Tarr; Justin Rains como Quentin McCawley; Nicole Munoz como Christie McCawley; Dewshane Williams como Tommy; y Peter MacNeill como Clancy.
