Il classico di Carol Reed del 1948 avrà un remake calato nell'India contemporanea. Il produttore di Men in Black 3 Walter F. Parkes produrrà il remake del classico del 1948 Idolo infranto, diretto da Carol Reed. Nella nuova versione la storia non sarà più ambientata a Londra, ma nell'India contemporanea. La pellicola originale, ispirata al racconto The Basement Room di Graham Greene (che l'anno successivo avrebbe nuovamente collaborato con Reed per Il terzo uomo) è ambientata all'interno dell'ambasciata francese a Londra e vede protagonista il giovane figlio di un diplomatico che ha una sfrenata ammirazione per Baines, maggiordomo del padre.
