Sei anni dopo Little Miss Sunshine, deliziosa commedia di Jonathan Dayton e Valerie Faris vincitrice di due premi Oscar, Toni Colette e il suo collega Steve Carell si riuniscono sul grande schermo in un nuovo progetto intitolato The Way, Way Back, debutto alla regia degli sceneggiatori Jim Rash (Community) e Nat Faxon (Bad Teacher) recentemente premiati con l'Academy Award per lo script di Paradiso Amaro (The Descendants) con George Clooney.
The Way, Way Back è un dramma indipendente che racconta le vacanze estive di un adolescente alle prese con la propria famiglia, coomposta da una madre emotivamente distante e un patrigno disonesto.
Nel cast include anche Sam Rockwell, Allison Janney e Annasophia Robb. Toni Collette vestirà i panni della madre distratta, mentre Carell sarà il patrigno amante di alcol e droghe nonchè incallito donnaiolo.
