È stato il manifesto della Beat Generation prima e un libro di culto poi. Ora il cinema riscopre On the Road di Jack Kerouac grazie al film di Walter Salles, il titolo attualmente più quotato per Cannes. Dopo aver esplorato l’America Latina in sella con un giovane Che Guevara (ne I diari della motocicletta), il regista brasiliano prosegue idealmente il suo viaggio americano, inseguendo lo spirito ribelle di Sal Paradise (alter ego di Kerouac e io narrante dell’opera letteraria; lo interpreta Sam Riley) sulle strade desolate dell’ovest degli Stati Uniti negli anni ’40. Con lui un selvaggio e carismatico ex detenuto, Dean Moriarty (alias Neal Cassady, gli dà volto Garrett Hedlund) e Marylou (Kristen Stewart), prima moglie di Cassady e amante di Kerouac. Nel cast, all-star, Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Dunst, Steve Buscemi, Amy Adams e Terrence Howard.
